Having the understanding and guidance of someone who has “been there” before can be a tremendous help when building one’s own path towards recovery and wellness. The System Den is a safe, comfortable, welcoming space where you can participate in activities that support your personal journey while engaging with and supporting others who are also working towards their recovery goals.
Certified Peer Support Specialists support the System Den's operation and are available to talk with you individually and to lead classes for group support and information sharing. Participants practice respect for each person’s journey, participate in activities and learn more about community resources.
During one of your first visits to the System Den, you will tour the space, review an orientation packet with a Peer Support Specialist, and sign a participation agreement if you choose to use the System Den and its resources. The System Den promotes safety, self-advocacy, and resiliency and supports you while you work towards your personal wellness goals. You may be interested in a class that offers evidence-based education or many other structured programs. Our Peer Support Specialists can offer you hope through a willingness to share their personal stories and experiences with you.
Once you are referred and arrive at the System Den for the first time, you will be greeted by a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) who will ask you to sign in and give you an orientation folder. The CPSS will provide a tour of the space and will review the contents of the orientation folder with you as you get acquainted with the System Den. You will then be invited to begin System Den participation!
You will meet other participants and systems who want to engage with peers as part of their recovery journeys related to mental health, substance use, and co-occurring intellectual and developmental disability needs. In addition, you will meet Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) who will work in the System Den during operating hours. They facilitate group activities, help manage the System Den and offer guidance, education and support as needed. CPSSs are also available to meet individually with participants.
